Poppy Crosswalk Pitched To City

Feb 24, 2017 | 3:00 PM

The idea for a poppy crosswalk honouring veterans in Vernon will go before city council on Monday.

The past president of the local Royal Canadian Legion, Ron Heuman, says professional artist Amanda Shatzko has agreed to help out on the project, and they also have a paint donor.

It would be located downtown, at a site still to be determined.

“We respectfully request council’s consideration and approval of this proposal,” says Heuman in a letter to the city. “We look forward in developing this idea to fruition.”

Vernon council earlier approved an 8-colour rainbow crosswalk to support inclusivity, which will be painted on the western side of 30th Avenue downtown this spring.
