Lake Country urges residents to prepare as wildfire, weather risks rise
The District of Lake Country is urging residents to get prepared now as warmer, drier conditions increase the risk of wildfire and other seasonal emergencies across the Central Okanagan.
Fire Chief Darren Lee says preparedness begins at home, encouraging residents to develop emergency plans, build grab-and-go kits, and ensure they are signed up for local alert systems. He says simple steps taken in advance can make a major difference when emergencies unfold quickly.
The district says it works closely with Central Okanagan Emergency Management and the Province of British Columbia to coordinate planning and response during wildfire season and other hazards such as extreme heat and potential flooding or landslides.
Residents are being reminded to be aware of local risks, plan evacuation routes, and prepare supplies for at least 72 hours, including medications, identification and basic essentials. Officials also stress the importance of acting quickly if evacuation alerts or orders are issued and following trusted information sources.
