Kalamoir Regional Park remains closed following wildfire, reopening plan underway
Kalamoir Regional Park remains closed as recovery work continues following the June 16 wildfire, with officials beginning planning for a phased reopening of unaffected areas.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue is still on site conducting mop-up and extinguishing hot spots. Smoke and firefighting equipment may still be visible in the area.
Although evacuation alerts have been lifted and the fire is under control, officials are asking the public to stay out of the park until further notice to allow crews to safely complete work.
Once firefighting operations and the fire investigation are complete, control of the park will be returned to the Regional District of Central Okanagan Parks Services, which will begin detailed assessments of trails, infrastructure and wildfire impacts.
