Vernon’s Career Program is a Hit!
One of the most promising developments in the Vernon School District from the new BC curriculum is the interest in the Career Program.
Students in high school are being allowed to try their hands at trades training and on the job training.
Those enrolled say it’s the best way to learn according to Board Chair Kelly Smith.
“They were following their passion. What they were doing didn’t even seem like work. They love it!”
Smith is overjoyed with the reaction.
“They said there was lots to learn. Now isn’t that heartwarming to hear a student say, ‘there’s lots to learn!'”
Smith says the career program is also a key element of the new BC curriculum.
“It gives students a chance to find their way, and really isn’t that what you hope an education system can do for students.”
A Career Education and Find Your Fit Day is planned for Fulton Secondary March 9th. Students can check out the career program during the day with parents and families having access that night.
