Public Helps In Arrest Of Dangerous Driving Suspect

Police in Vernon and West Kelowna worked together to take some theft suspects into custody.

A white Ford F-150 pickup, earlier reported stolen out of Red Deer, sped away from a Vernon mall on 32nd Street Tuesday morning when an officer tried to talk to the occupants.

“The male driver of the truck fled from the scene in an extremely dangerous manner nearly striking the officer before back up onto 34th Ave, driving through the stop sign and heading north on 32nd Street,” says Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

RCMP say they received numerous complaints from the general public regarding the dangerous driving of this vehicle.

“And due to this assistance, we were able to track its movements from Vernon to Westside Road,” says Noseworthy.

RCMP in West Kelowna later located the stolen vehicle parked on a side street off Westside Road.

Two suspects, a 36 year old man and 31 year old woman, were arrested without incident, and are facing numerous charges.

The list for the man includes possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, breach of recognizance, and driving while prohibited.

The 31 year old female passenger is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Both have been held in custody to appear before the Vernon Provincial Court.

“Members of our community were instrumental as our eyes and ears in this incident, and allowed us to bring this to a safe conclusion,” says Sgt. David Evans.
