Push for Uber & Lift in Enderby

With only one taxi that operates sporadically and no public transit, Enderby residents are somewhat limited in their options to get to medical appointments or shopping.

Enderby Council wants the Provincial Government to set up regulations allowing more independent carriers like Uber or Lift to operate in rural communities according to Mayor Greg McCune.

“We just want the Provincial Government when they are looking at regulations for the province to not just think of the Lower Mainland. We want them to put something in place that would allow the ability for a rural small community to have those services as well.”

McCune says many rural communities face the same challenges in local residents struggling to find ways to get around if they are elderly or unable to drive themselves.

“If they had an appointment days ahead they could line up a ride. They would know the cost of it ahead of time. They would go to the door and then be picked up and be brought back home.”

Enderby Council is pushing the Provincial Government to allow more independent carriers like Uber or Lift to operate in their community to give locals more options.

“I think it’s just an opportunity out there to add to the services that we provide that maybe aren’t perfect.”

A letter has been sent to the Provincial Government requesting help in dealing with transportation issues related to rural communities.
