Car Hits Median, Driver Tries To Flee
Police say alcohol was a factor in a crash near UBCO in Kelowna Thursday night.
A 29 year old Kelowna man was seen driving his Nissan sedan at speeds well over the posted 80km/hr limit just before 10:30 pm.
“According to witnesses he hit a median in the highway then spun 180 degrees before his disabled car stopped. He fled after his vehicle would not start but was located, with the assistance of witnesses, by police who detained him after finding evidence of alcohol impairment,” says Cst. Steve Holmes.
He provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit.
“This incident clearly demonstrates the dangers of driving while impaired”, says Holmes. “It was fortunate he only hit a median and not another vehicle or vehicles.” The RCMP would like to thank those who assisted in this situation.
