Sub Station Fault Causes Power Outage

Feb 17, 2017 | 2:34 PM

Update: 3 pm

Power is back on after a major outage in parts of the North Okanagan.

BC Hydro’s Dag Sharman says power went out just after 2 pm, affecting 78-hundred customers mostly in Armstrong, Spallumcheen and Enderby but also in parts of Coldstream and Vernon.

“It’s a problem at the sub station, so that’s the source that feeds all of the customers in Armstrong. We have crews there now. They have located the problem and should have power back on shortly,” Sharman told Kiss FM in a call just before 3 pm.

Sharman says they don’t know the exact cause as yet.

“Their first priority is to make sure everything is safe, and then they see if they can get power back on, and they they look into what went wrong.”

Power is out for thousands of residents in parts of the North Okanagan.

BC Hydro says its affecting close to 7,800 customers in Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Enderby, Coldstream and Vernon.

The cause is listed as substation fault.

Crews are en route and should arrive at the site at 3:30 pm.
