Tax Relief In Budget?

Feb 14, 2017 | 6:00 PM

The BC government is promising financial relief for taxpayers in next week’s budget.

Tuesday’s throne speech hinted at that, talking about a growing budget surplus, believed to be around 2 billion dollars.

Vernon Liberal MLA Eric Foster says he only knows the general details of what will be in the budget.

“It’s a good budget as far as the management, so I’m hoping there will be some good news.”

Foster says it will be a balanced budget, the fifth consecutive one for the Liberals.

“We had good year. If you follow each quarterly report, we were very strong, and for the most part it was because people were working and paid more taxes,” Foster tells Kiss FM.

The BC Federation of Labour says the speech offered few concrete measures to make life better for hard-working British Columbians, and nor did it deliver real action to address the growing poverty and inequality crisis that is too prevalent in our province, says the BC Federation of Labour.

“It was the same platitudes, and same old excuses from a tired government that’s run out of gas,” says BCFED President Irene Lanzinger.

NDP leader John Horgan says the speech showed Christy Clark has been working for the wealthy and the well-connected while leaving ordinary British Columbians behind.

“Now on the eve of an election, she is doing anything she can to distract from the fact that she has created a B.C. where people can’t afford to live and build a future,” says Horgan.
