Rally For More Seniors Care Staff
A push to get more staff in BC seniors homes will be held on Family Day in the Okanagan.
Organizer Judy Galley says the province sets the guidelines for the number of staff.
“Nine out of ten senior facilities do not meet those minimal government standards guidelines,’ says Galley. Almost all of them are understaffed, and it is created neglect in a big way.”
Galley — who is from the Salmon Arm area — has organized a rally from noon to 3 this Monday outside Christy Clark’s constituency office at 2429 Dobbin Road in West Kelowna.
“It will be starting with a performance by the Raging Grannies. They will sing a few songs in support of better care for our seniors.”
Galley says the event is supported by the Hospital Employees Union and BC Nurses Union.
“They’ve really been pushing for legislated staff at seniors facilities for a long time now.”
