Concerns For Kal Lake Road Closure

Feb 6, 2017 | 8:30 PM

A city construction project could shut down part of Kalamalka Lake Road for up to two months this year.

The city will be adding a multi use path on the west side of the road from 14th Avenue to the city boundary by the Alpine Centre.

Infrastructure engineer Mark Dowhaniuk says that will require closing the section from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre.

“We are asking the businesses when they would prefer the closure,” he told council.

Councillor Brian Quiring has heard from a business in that area concerned about losing summer traffic.

“That’s why I asked the question. I think it will be tough if that road is closed in July and August. It will be very tough.”

Mayor Akbal Mund says the city has to do a good job getting input from the merchants.

“Anyone would be concerned, especially for the businesses. They have to find another way in, so there’s got to be some kind of mediation to get people to the businesses,” Mund tells Kiss FM.
