Enderby Riverwalk Needs Pruning

Aug 21, 2017 | 6:38 AM

The City of Enderby is going to take a look at the Riverwalk.

Mayor Greg McCune says something may have to be done about vegetation in the area.

“It’s becoming grown in quite substantially. We had a letter from a few people in town who said you know you got the Riverwalk, yet you can walk along it for a fair bit of time, yet never see the river.”

Mayor Greg McCune says while it was designed, a lot of vegetation was planted to protect fish.

He admits it’s a problem now, but not an easy one to solve.

He says there are environmental issues that have to be reviewed before anything can be done.

“We’d need a timber cutting down permit to go and open up some spaces. But that becomes quite costly. We could end up spending 40 to a hundred thousand dollars just to study whether we could take out some vegetation.”

He says more discussion is going to have to happen, possibly with provincial officials to see what can be done.
