West Kelowna firefighters responded to two grass fires Thursday, one of which is being investigated by police.

At around 1 p.m. on July 2, West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) were dispatched to the 2300 block of Dominion Road.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and discovered an approximately 30 by 30 foot grass fire that local workers were actioning. Fire crews took over operations and knocked down the flames and established guards around the perimeter.

An investigation found the fire was started from a spark off a grinder.

Then, around 4 p.m., WKFR was called out to the 3600 block of Carrington Road for another grass fire.

Crews arrived on the scene and found an approximately 150 by 150 foot fire, and quickly knocked down the flames and established a guard around the scene.

Officials deemed the fire suspicious in nature, and are investigating the cause in partnership with the RCMP.

These incidents came less than 24 hours after the Canada Day grass fire on Bartley Road.

WKFR urged people to be vigilant and cautious as the dry conditions pose a high risk of a fire starting and spreading quickly.
