West Kelowna RCMP have put out a call for public assistance to help identify the driver of a motorcycle who was riding dangerously.

Mounties were travelling south on Highway 97 near Grizzly Road at around 5 p.m. Thursday when they observed a sport motorcycle doing dangerous stunts, including riding on one wheel, or ‘catwalking’, in the middle of the highway.

Police activated their lights and pulled up along the white motorcycle, driven by and man wearing a white helmet. The rider reportedly indicated he would pull over, but then took off at great speed and fled from police. Officers did not pursue due to public safety concerns.

“Choosing to accelerate away from police at a high rate of speed is reckless and unacceptable,” Constable Ash Puri, West Kelowna Media Resource Officer, stated.

“While officers discontinued their attempt to stop the motorcycle in the interest of public safety, we remain committed to identifying the rider. We encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist investigators.”

Anyone with information about the rider or the incident was asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880, or file an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
