Spallumcheen Pushing For 4 Laning Of Highway 97A to Enderby

The Township of Spallumcheen is looking to the new NDP government to improve Highway 97 from Armstrong to Enderby.

Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown says four-laning of the highway has to be considered.

“Yeah, you know it’s pretty congested. They’ve got the Mabel Lake. They’ve got the tubers. They’ve got a lot going on there and everybody has to go through there to get from Calgary to Vernon.

Brown and other Spallumcheen officials are requesting a meeting with the Transportaion Minister at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in September.

“And that we can maybe promote it a little bit more and being new that they might take the initiative and think that it’s something they can get done quickly and not do for us, but do for the province as well.”

The Mayor says there’s no time to just sit back and wait, as the region has been doing for years.

“We don’t want to let up now. We’ve been trying to get a safety junction at McLeod subdivision there and we always are promoting the four-laning all the way to Enderby that they’ve been basically promising now for the last 10, 15 years.”

Brown says something also needs to be done about easing the congestion going through Enderby as traffic gets backed up by the traffic light crunch.
