Construction To Begin On Marshall Field Pickleball Courts

The Vernon Pickleball Association hopes to get construction started this month on its new 12 court facility in Marshall Field.

The group is waiting for approval in an engineer’s geo-tech report.

Club member Gerry Forcier  says they’ve been trying to get dedicated courts for several years.

“It took us quite a while to identify an area, and this area here, once it did become available, it was just perfect for our needs,” Forcier tells Kiss FM.

The Regional District of North Okanagan is providing 300-thousand dollars for the courts, and Forcier says the club will provide the rest.

“It’s a substantial amount that we’ve raised from donations from our members. But we’re also approaching governments, and Funtastic has been very supportive .”

The group also has a five year sponsorship deal with Okanagan Wealth Advisors/Hollis Wealth.

The club will hold a Fun Day at Marshall Field Saturday Aug. 19th from 2 to 6 pm, to allow people to find out more about the growing sport.

One of the activities will be an exhibition game with Level 5 players.

“Level 5 in pickleball is the top rated skill level,” says Forcier who says there will also be instruction for new players, food and music, and 50-50 draws.

Forcier says the club has about 380 members and currently plays outdoor games on tennis courts at MacDonald Park, Mt. Ida, and Sawicki Park.
