Lavington Construction Board Plant Delayed

Plans to open a new business in the former Lavington glass plant have been delayed a few months, but it’s a good thing.

Restoration Lands Inc. bought the old plant to convert it into an operation to construct magnesium-oxide board said to be better than traditional gypsum board.

It is said to be fire-resistant, water-resistant, impact-resistant and mold proof, overall a much superior product.

Restoration’s Constructshield brand has merged with Rethinking Construction of Alberta.

Spokesman James Molnar says Rethinking already has the certification needed for the new board.

“With that, we’ve basically taken the time after production and sped things up exponentially, so we are way ahead of where we anticipated being.”

Molnar, who is the Director of Business Development for Constructshield, says while they have pushed the production start date back, overall, having the certification and testing already in place, they’ll be able to ramp up production much quicker.

He says Rethinking has been using magnesium-oxide in a panelized building system that the merger gives Constructshield access to.

That includes firewalls, blasterated walls to insulated walls that exceed R-100.

Molnar says when it comes down to it, the companies are a perfect match, each having parts of a puzzle the other needed.

He says they expect to have the plant up and running before the end of the year.

The plan still is to hire about 100 workers to start and he has a lot of resumes.

Molnar says the renovation of the plant is going well.

They’ve replaced about 750 of the existing fixtures with LED lighting.

Roofing work has been delayed a bit by the recent heat and the smoke.

Some of the roofers have found days where they’ve experienced coughing from breathing in the smoke.

He expects the work will still be done within the next couple of months.
