Change In Weather Coming
It’s been almost six weeks since Vernon last got rain.
“The last time we received any precipitation at our Vernon station was June 28th. We received 0.3 milimetres,” says meteorologist Cindy Yu from Environment Canada.
Yu says a trough of low pressure is expected this weekend which could bring thunderstorms on Saturday, and up to 10 milimetres of rain by Sunday.
She says the temperature will also cool down.
“Starting Sunday through the first part of next week, we will see temperatures in the low 20’s,” says Yu.
Yu says the change in the weather may not put an end to the smoky conditions.
She says rain on Sunday should reduce the smoke, but wind may bring more into the area.
“We have some forest fire smoke to the west and east of us, so it’s hard to say how much of that smoke will drift into the region, but certainly, with that rain on Sunday, it will help to filter out the air a little bit.”
