BC Government To Review Pipeline Expansion

BC’s new government is taking action to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion from proceeding.

Environment Minister George Heyman says the pipeline is not in BC’s best interest, and the resulting seven fold increase in tanker traffic is too big a risk.

“What we have said is we will use every tool available to defend BC’s interests, and that’s exactly what we;re dong,”Heyman told a news conference.

Heyman says the government has hired lawyer Thomas Berger who will review the current legal action against the government and the Trans Mountain project.

He says they also plan to seek intervener status in the legal challenges to federal approval of the project.

Heyman realizes it will be a difficult challenge, given the federal government giving its approval for the expansion.

“But we’re committed to stepping up and fighting for BC’s best interests,” says Heyman.
