Kin Track Trial Delayed Until Fall

The civil trial over use of Kin Race Track in Vernon will need more time.

Robyn Dalziel, president of the Okanagan Equestrian Society, says after ten days of court time in New Westminster, the two sides will return to court for one or two days at the end of September.

“They will finish up the last few things and then it will be three to six months for a decision I’ve heard.”

The case before BC Supreme Court Justice Michael Tammen, will decide the future use of the facility on 43rd Avenue.

The society says horse racing has a more than 100 year history at the site, and they have the documents that prove they should be able to keep holding horse events there.

The City of Vernon and Regional District of North Okanagan served notice to evict the society seven years ago, claiming they didn’t follow conditions of their contract.

The City and regional district are looking to use the park for other recreational purposes.

The city had no comment on the case other than to say the matter is expected to be in court for closing arguments September 28 and 29.
