At age 30 is it time to drop ‘Sid the Kid’ Moniker…?

Sidney Crosby says 30 is “just a number,” as he celebrates his birthday today in his native Nova Scotia in a parade through Halifax along with the cherished Stanley Cup.

He is marshal of Halifax’s annual Natal Day parade, and thousands of people lined the streets for a glimpse of the cup.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion and future Hall of Famer says he looks forward to the huge challenge it would be to win another cup…but he’s up for that.

Crosby likes the idea that NHL hockey just keeps getting faster, which is a performance element he thrives in.

Photos on social media over the weekend showed Crosby taking the cup to a local children’s hospital and other locations to cheering crowds.

After the Halifax parade, “Sid the Kid” will go to Rimouski, where he played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was a local fan favourite.

Now…speaking of ‘Sid the Kid’…at 30 years of age, is it time for the media to drop ‘the Kid’ moniker…a convenient handle for hockey commentators when they need a quick go-to phrase…that has stuck since the 2005 entry draft.

‘Sid the Kid’…probably due for a ‘hooking’ penalty.
