Smoke Not Going Anywhere

The weather experts say there is no quick end to the smoke in our area.

Alyssa Charbonneau from Environment Canada says the current ridge of high pressure is one of the reasons.

“Really what we need to clear this smoke out is a change of air mass and a different weather pattern, and we don’t really see that coming,” she tells Kiss FM.

Charbonneau says it will be dependent on the wind directions and speeds.

“But as long as we have this ridge of high pressure and these fires burning, the wildfire smoke is going to continue to impact us.”

Charbonneau says the local smoke is expected to become more widespread.

“The forecast is trying to express the fact that as we get into the overnight hours tonight, we’re expecting the smoke that has  mixed through the atmosphere will start to settle in the valleys.”

The Environment Ministry says people may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath if out in the smoke.
