Lack Of Rain Factored Into Water Restrictions

Aug 2, 2017 | 1:10 PM

Greater Vernon Water doesn’t plan to implement tougher water restrictions, despite no significant rain for the last month.

Water quality manager Renee Clark says their reservoirs are still at Stage 1 levels, which allow watering three days a week.

“We’re really trying to stay out of of Stage 2, so we’re monitoring our large water users and asking them to make sure they’re not using more than their allocation,” says Clark.

Clark says water staff is also keeping an eye on residential water use.

“if we have this continual dryness, it will be interesting to see how we do, but if we continue on this path we’re going, we should be able to stay on Stage 1.”

If Stage 2 rules are needed, it would limit watering to 2 days a week.

“We’re looking at ways at increasing our usage on Kalamalka Lake. That’s one of our strategies, and that will help reduce the volume that’s coming out of our upland storage (lakes and reservoirs),” says Clark.
