Vernon Public Art Gallery postpones reception, changes a space due to wildfires

In light of the ongoing wildfire situation affecting communities throughout the North Okanagan, and in support of those impacted, the Vernon Public Art Gallery (VPAG) has postponed this week’s public opening reception.

The gallery will instead, reimagine an exhibition space to allow the public to visit, free of charge, during these difficult circumstances.

The reception was to be for Opera Obscura by Mary Kavanagh and Your Absence is Mineral by Sarah Steeves on August 6th and an artist talk with Mary Kavanagh on August 8th.

The gallery will remain open during this time as a safe space for people seeking out a moment of reflection.

The VPAG is inviting community members, evacuees, and anyone seeking a welcoming place to pause to visit the gallery free of charge.

Your Absence is Mineral by Sarah Steeves will be opening later in the month, so until August 26th, the Caroline Galbraith Gallery has been repurposed into a place of respite with furniture lent by Gleaners, where there will be drop-in self-guided art activities, art films playing, and an art reading nook.
