Air quality warnings issued due to smoke in the Okanagan
Smoke drifting into the Okanagan Valley have triggered air quality warnings.
An Orange Warning was issued for the North Okanagan and a Yellow Warning was put in place for the Central Okanagan shortly before noon on Friday.
The smoke caused the air quality health index rating to rise to Very High in the North Okanagan, and up to Moderate for the Central Okanagan. Environment Canada warned the smoke could linger for 24 to 48 hours, causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.
“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour,” the weather agency stated.
