The Vernon Okanagan Inspired Community Events Society (VOICE Society) is inviting residents and visitors to celebrate the nation’s birthday.

The group will host its Canada Day celebration at Polson Park July 1.

The free celebrations will begin at 11 a.m. with a free bouncy caste and family-fun activities in the park. From noon to 7 p.m. the Polson Market will run, and at 3 p.m. people will be given free fruit as part of Fruit Fest.

There will be performances by the Kalamalka Highlanders, Vernon Community Band, Kalamalka Cheer, Sadok Dancers, Kesevah Belly Dancers, and the North Okanagan Pipe and Drum Band over the course of the day.

There will also be live music through the evening with performances by AKA Daisy, Fungl Jungl, Goldsauce, Tidal Baby and Sourdope, before the Vancouver-based indie-rock group Hotel Mira hits the stage to headline the show at 8 p.m.

VOICE Society was also putting aside some space for local organizations and non-profits to set up booths so people could connect with service and program providers.

“Celebrating Community is really about creating a space where people can come together, enjoy local talent, support local vendors, and spend time with one another in the park,” the VOICE Society said in a release.

“We’re excited to continue growing the event into something that reflects the spirit and diversity of Vernon.”
