A young man is dead and two people are injured after a serious crash on Westside Road that occurred Monday afternoon.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, along with Emergency Health Services and the Okanagan Indian Band Fire Department, were called out for a report of a fatal crash on the road near the intersection with Lawrence Road, south of Parker Cove, around 3:45 p.m.

Police said an older grey Dodge Ram pickup was heading north when it appeared to have caught the soft shoulder and rolled off the road.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was killed in the crash.

Two passengers, a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old youth, were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. They sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

“Vernon North Okanagan RCMP offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” Corporal Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

The crash caused the road to be closed for several hours Monday.

The collision remained under investigation as of time of publication and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam or security camera footage from the area around the time of the incident was asked to contact Constable Wagner-Michaud with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Armstrong office at 250-546-3028.
