Kelowna adopts provincial voters list for October election
Kelowna voters heading into this October’s municipal election will see a faster check-in process after the city adopted the provincial voters list for the first time.
City council has approved the move, which allows election workers to verify voter information using Elections BC data instead of relying solely on local registration lists. Officials say the change is expected to reduce paperwork at voting stations and shorten wait times on election day.
Residents who register in advance with Elections BC will be pre-verified, allowing for a more streamlined voting process when they arrive at the polls.
“Making it easier to participate is one of the most important ways we can support democracy,” said Kelowna Chief Election Officer Michael Jud. He added that advance registration will be especially helpful for eligible non-resident property electors, helping simplify the process at voting places.
