YES I CAN, my own way

Inspiring message of neurodivergence in new children’s book

A local writer has put pen to paper and published a children’s book with a focus on neurodivergence.

Christian Armstrong, who was born and raised in Vernon, has published his book, “YES I CAN, my own way.”

The book tells the story of Eli, an autistic boy, who feels overwhelmed by the anxiety of school, friendships and other variables that his classmates do not worry about. However, Eli discovers his strengths and uses those to overcome challenges and learn that being different doesn’t mean he is less of a person, and that dreams are worth pursuing.

Armstrong, who has experienced a similar journey as his book’s main character, is a public speaker who talks at schools and to organizations about embracing the gifts found within neurodivergence.

“I published ‘YES I CAN, my own way’ to expand my outreach, hoping the message will reach young children and parents who may not get the opportunity to hear me speak,” Armstrong said in a statement to Vernon Matters.

Armstrong’s book can be found at Amazon, and people can also book him for speeches through his website.
