A local organization that supports school children is celebrating its ninth year of operations.

In the 2025-26 school year, the Okanagan Learning Foundation:

  • Provided 90 students with weekly meals to ensure they were well fed over weekends through their six Food for Thought pantries
  • Provided grants to students and educators
    • $13,100 going towards projects
    • $5,000 for student scholarships
    • $3,5000 for professional development
    • $1,800 for student supports
    • $1,550 for kids to go on school trips
  • Distributed 21 Christmas hampers to support students and their families

The group also said it provided non-cost office and meeting space for 40 hours each week over the school year, and provided a combined 864 volunteer hours for six Food for Thought pantries.

“We want to extend our gratitude to our dedicated volunteers, school staff and sponsors who made this year so incredible,” Tracey Barrie, Director of the Okanagan Learning Foundation, said.

“We’re proud to continue to support our local students and educators in the Okanagan.”

The group added that “the need for food security assistance doesn’t stop when the bell rings,” and would be preparing over the summer months to prepare for when their work to help feed children resumes in September.
