Interior Health releases review of KGH pediatric service disruption
Interior Health has taken steps to strengthen pediatric care at Kelowna General Hospital following a seven-week service interruption in 2025.
The health authority released an independent review Tuesday that examined workplace and system challenges contributing to the disruption. The review, conducted by Harbour West Consulting and Dr. Jana Davidson, included interviews with pediatricians, nurses, administrators and healthcare leaders.
The report identified opportunities to improve communication, collaboration and issue escalation processes while emphasizing the need to rebuild trust among staff.
Interior Health said several recommendations are already being addressed. The pediatrics department has grown from 5.6 to 11 full-time pediatricians, while work continues on initiatives aimed at improving workplace safety, communication and staff engagement.
