Road safety urged heading into fall, winter
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are urging people to be safe on the roads as daylight hours are starting to shorten.
Local Mounties reminded people that safety is the responsibility of both pedestrians, motorists and other road users.
People walking, cycling or using other alternative modes of transportation were advised to be safe by:
- Avoiding distractions such as phones, headphones and earbuds, and paying attention to their surroundings
- Being seen and predictable by crossing at crosswalks and intersections, and by wearing bright or reflective clothing in low light
- Making sure it’s safe to cross by looking both ways and making eye contact with drivers before stepping into the road
