Snowmobile collided with parked semi

Police watchdog found police actions appropriate in Revelstoke snowmobile crash

Feb 3, 2022 | 1:28 PM

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has concluded that an officer was not at fault in the case of a snowmobile crash in Revelstoke.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. on Dec. 13, 2021, an RCMP officer observed a man riding a snowmobile heading east on Highway 1.

Video from the police vehicle confirmed the officer turned around to travel in the direction of the snowmobile, but did not attempt to stop or pursue the sled.

Shortly after, the video showed the officer coming upon the snowmobile, without its rider, which had collided with a parked semi-truck.

The rider had walked a short distance from the scene and was located by officers a few minutes later.

Emergency Health Services transported the man to hospital for further treatment.

The IIO’s Chief Civilian Director reviewed the evidence, including the video footage and the medical records, and determined the actions of the officer were appropriate and did not cause the man’s injuries.
