Ice and cold water training to go in Vernon over the weekend

People may notice some activity near Okanagan Lake and Swan Lake over the weekend as Vernon Fire Rescue Services is holding ice and cold water safety training.

The training will be held on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 5 and 6) at various locations depending on where the best conditions are present.

“On occasion, our firefighters are called to assist with shoreline events or emergencies involving lakes, creeks or culverts,” said fire chief David Lind.

“This training will help provide valuable safety information for rescuers if they are called to work on ice or near bodies of water.”
