Panthers repeat at Provincials

Make it two B.C. titles in a row for the Vernon Secondary Panthers.

The team, under head coach Sean Smith, defeated the Langley Saints 43-14 at BC Place in Vancouver Saturday to win the AA varsity title.

Panthers quarterback Zack Smith was named the MVP, rushing for three touchdowns and passing three more.

Teammates Caden Danbrook (top back) and Brady Szeman (top lineman) also won individual awards.

After the championship, Coach Smith told reporter Howard Tsumura he thought it was going to be a tough season trying to repeat.

“Every year is different, and this year I thought we were really going to get pushed. I was worried all week that we were really going to get blown out, but my boys responded to playing a team that was much bigger and more powerful. We really showed our strength and resiliency,” said Smith.
