Persistence Pays Off

It took him three months, but Don Jefcoat finally has the support to enter the Vernon-Monashee race for the May election.

The Vernon construction worker says it took him that long to get the required 75 people to sign his nomination form.

“There was a couple of times I thought about giving up, but I got into an area that was just a positive area. I got 25 in an hour and a half,” Jefcoat tells Kiss FM.

He says he will be submitting the names to Elections BC next week who have to verify them to make sure the addresses and other information is correct.

“I went door to door. To my understanding, I’m the only candidate that went out into the riding to collect signatures and didn’t rely on the riding association to do it,” adds Jefcoat.

Jefcoat will be running for the BC Libertarian Party.

“Your electoral district is what we should be representing, not party agendas. We do have some very vague agendas, but they are more of a talking point because people want to see a platform.”

Jefcoat says candidates have to pay $250 to enter the race to Elections BC, which he says you get back if you get at least 5% of the votes.

Others in the race are incumbent Liberal Eric Foster, Barry Dorval of the NDP, and Keli Westgate of the Greens.
