Construction Jobs Tied To New App

Students at Salmon Arm Secondary are part of pilot project aimed at future careers in the construction industry.

“It’s called the labour market readiness project, and it’s basically the development of a new app that’s going to help students better connect with employers,” says Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo.

Kyllo says the app allows students to identify skills they will need to get into the industry, and to help employers find future student workers.

“This app provides the opportunity to document all of the different skills that they’ve developed over the course of their education, and they more in tune with what employers are looking for.”

Kyllo says the app is only available for students at select schools in Salmon Arm, Kelowna and Penticton at this point.

“There’s a little bit of education that needs to come along with the use of the app — and the intent is to roll it out to additional schools over the coming months,” Kyllo said in an interview with Kiss FM.
