Boundary Change Could Impact Schools

Mar 17, 2017 | 7:43 AM

The catchment area for Kidston and Coldstream schools could change to even out the enrolment at the two.

School board chair Kelly Smith says that’s one of the suggestions made by a committee looking into the issue.

“They came up with a recommendation that a boundary should change slightly to shift some children from Coldstream to Kidston.”

Smith says Coldstream school is full, while Kidston has room for more student.

Smith says the next step is to get input.

“We will hold a public consultation meeting the evening of April 11th at Kalamalka Secondary School.”

Smith says the change would ease the pressure off Coldstream Elementary, although she knows any change could be difficult for some families

“Here’s a school that’s very full, and here’s a school that has room. Is this going to work for your family? That’s what consultation is all about,” Smith tells Kiss FM.

The SD 22 District Parent Advisory tweeted, “Our understanding of the recommendation is that existing students will not be expected to change schools, only new students.”
