Groups Seek More French Immersion

Mar 16, 2017 | 4:07 PM

Groups supporting more French Immersion programs have made presentations to the Vernon School Board.

The Beairsto Elementary Parent Advisory Committee would like a fifth kindergarten class added this fall at a still to be determined site.

The current four are at Harwood and Alexis Park elementarys, and both are at capacity.

Board Chair Kelly Smith says they also heard from the group Canadian Parents For French at Tuesday’s meeting, who want to talk about growth opportunities for the program.

“They requested that the school district establish a round table of stakeholders in order to faciliate a stable, long term growth solution for the French Immersion program,” says Smith.

Smith says the two requests are similar, but different.

“I think one of them wants an immediate response, while the other sees it as a future response.”

Smith says trustees will discuss the requests at their next meeting in April.
