New Uses For Arena Checked Out

Vernon council will get some cost estimates on the Civic Arena.

After touring the site this week, Mayor Akbal Mund says council is taking a closer look at re-purposing the 80 year old structure.

“We’ve asked for what the cost would be to take out what’s inside the arena, to make it a shell. So you would be removing everything in the arena.”

Mund says they want to find out how much it would cost to turn it into a market, a museum, or a sports facility.
The idea of tearing down the building and creating a park is also an option.

Mund says they will also be getting a quote on demolishing the building

“You want to make sure you’re doing the right thing. If it comes back to us that the cost of keeping that building is 15 million dollars, then, I’m sorry but I’m a business guy, and I would say knock it down.”
