Four Bids For New Arena
Four companies have made bids to build the new arena at Kal Tire Place.
Three are from Kelowna and the other is from Port Moody.
Recreation Services Director Doug Ross says they will now make sure the bids include all the tender details.
“And then once it’s verified, then we will identify the successful bidder, and then we would start negotiations towards a contract,” Ross tells Kiss FM.
Ross says they hope to get the contract done in the next 30 days, meaning construction could start by late April.
“That would depend on how quickly they’re prepared to activate, but we could see construction anytime after the middle of April to the middle of May,” adds Ross.
As for the prices submitted in the bids, Ross had this to say: “I can’t comment on them because they are unverified at this point, but the bids came in certainly in the ball park that we were anticipating.”
The construction part of the contract for the 400 seat arena was estimated to cost $11.5 million.
It will be built onto the north end of the existing Kal Tire Place.
The four companies to submit bids are: VVI Construction of Kelowna, Maple Reinders of Kelowna, BTR Construction of Kelowna, and Yellow Ridge Construction of Port Moody.
