Road Widening Project

Mar 10, 2017 | 9:00 PM

Another section of Westside Road in West Kelowna will undergo widening this fall.

“This is a very narrow and winding section of road, with steep slopes on one side and a high embankment on the other,” says Premier Christy Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna. “A wider shoulder and a concrete barrier will mean an easier drive, with safer conditions and more space for the pedestrians and cyclists who use Westside Road to get to the many recreational sites along Okanagan Lake.”

The project will include two kilometres of lane widening and curve improvements along Westside Road, 37 kilometres north of the Highway 97 intersection.

Crews will construct a proper shoulder to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians, and will also provide space for the installation of a concrete barrier above the slope of Okanagan Lake.

The ministry anticipates tendering this work in June.

The project’s estimated construction start date is fall of 2017 with completion in the fall of 2018.
