Petition for Armstrong Eye Clinic

Petition to Save Armstrong Eye Clinic

May 17, 2019 | 1:05 PM

Hundreds of people have already signed a petition to keep the Lions Vision Centre in Armstrong, according to Armstrong Lions Club president Diann Boyd.

She says the petition is expected to be making the rounds at all Lions Clubs’ events in Armstrong and Enderby this summer before being presented to Interior Health and, possibly, the BC Legislature.

There has been talk that Interior Health could move the facility to Vernon Jubilee Hospital due to a shortage of anesthesiologists.

Boyd says a recent letter to the club from Susan Brown, president and CEO of the Interior Health Authority, expresses appreciation for the time and financial assistance from the Lions Club for the clinic.

However, Boyd says language in the letter also suggested “the real possibility” of the clinic moving from Armstrong.

“We want to be more proactive” in showing the support for the clinic remaining where it is, explains Boyd.

She says people are “pleased with the way the centre runs, the care they receive and the accessibility (of the clinic).”

The club held a community rally in front of the clinic last month.

Copies of the petition will be at the pancake breakfasts being held this weekend at Gold Panning Days in Enderby.

The clubs hope to garner thousands of signatures.
