Plant A tree program takes root

Tree planting program takes root

May 16, 2019 | 10:15 AM

The City of Vernon is once again encouraging residents to plant a tree.

The program provides a $20 voucher towards the purchase of a tree at Swan Lake Nursery, to be planted on private residential property.

Participants will also get a guide to help select an appropriate tree (on-line or paper copy available); and guidelines to support planting the tree successfully.

The City says the program helps to beautify the city and enhance the livability neighbourhoods.

If you are interested, you can pick up a tree voucher at the front desk of the Community Services Building at 3001 32 Avenue  (the former Library), between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday (except holidays) until October 15, 2019.

You have to bring identification of residency, as the offer is limited to one voucher per Vernon household.

You then go to Swan Lake Nursery and pick up a tree, where the voucher can be used.

Participants can also take a photo of their new tree in its location and upload it to the City website: https://www.vernon.ca/trees
