'Dance For Ruth' Looks To Leave Legacy

‘Dance For Ruth’ Looks To Leave Legacy

May 8, 2019 | 11:20 AM

A fundraising event this month will create a legacy for a well-respected former member of the community.

Ruth Blencoe — who ran a dance studio in Vernon — passed away in a motor vehicle crash in February

“On February 22, 2019 the world lost a beautiful sole and the heavens were blessed with a butterfly,” says a news release from Cindy Masters from the Kindale Developmental Association. “Ruth Blencoe was a wonderful woman who touched the community she lived and worked in, in such a profound way, and her legacy will live on with your generous support.”

An event called “Dance for Ruth” will be held Saturday May 18th at the Schubert Centre, with the funds raised used to create a scholarship in Blencoe’s name.

“Ruth had a dream to have a Fine Arts scholarship. Together with the love of her life, friends, family and our community, we want to make that dream come true. The Ruth Blencoe Memorial Award “a living legacy for Ruth,” says Masters.

The Shawn Lightfoot band will perform at the event, with tickets selling for $50, and available at Bannister Honda, Bannister GM, Cheek to Cheek, Schubert Centre and Cottons Chocolates.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Schubert Centre, Deb White from White House Mortgages and Rob Ellis from Rellish Transport Services – 100% of the funds raised from this event will go to the award,” says Masters.

Organizers are looking for businesses to help by donating an item for the live or silent auction, with arrangements for pickup made by contacting Pat Loehndorf at 250-545-0531 or Cindy Masters at 250-503-7974.

People can also make a cash donation to the Ruth Blencoe Memorial Award at the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan.
