Boating Stakeholders Meet on Possible Regulations

Mar 9, 2017 | 7:54 AM

The issue of boat regulations on the Shuswap River will be discussed by stakeholders during a two-day meeting next week.

A consultant hired by the Regional District of North Okanagan has lined up interested people willing to represent all facets of users and people affected by the river system.

RDNO chair Bob Fleming says these meetings will start to develop possible regulations.

“That will be the first go around with people discussing it with the consultant as a mediator and trying to come up with a solution that people can live with.”

Fleming says these meetings will give those representatives an open forum to present their views.

“The idea is that all aspects can be discussed. I think people have to be free to put their ideas out there and be confident that they are not going to be attacked.”

Public consultations are likely to take place once a draft of possible rules is compiled.
