Enderby is where it wants to be as far as doctors.

The city has added an internationally trained physician at its health centre, giving it three doctors and a nurse practitioner.

Back in 2012, there was concerns the city of 3,000 would be down to one doctor after two retired and one was moving to Vancouver.

Under the program by the province and Doctors of BC, the doctors have to make a minimum three year commitment to a rural community.

Mayor Greg McCune says the doctors have come for the lifestyle, and he hopes it will convince them to stay past the required three year minimum commitment.

Nelson and 100 Mile House will also be getting new doctors, while Williams Lake will get two as part of 14 additional internationally trained physicians who start practice in rural and remote communities in February and March.

“Doctors in smaller communities play an integral role not only contributing to the health and wellness of their patients, but to the community itself,” says Health Minister Terry Lake. “Rural communities often face bigger challenges with attracting new doctors, and the Practice Ready Assessment program strengthens health-care services in these communities.”
