Enderby Passes Marijuana Bylaw

The City of Enderby will tonight pass it’s somewhat controversial marijuana bylaw.

City Council putting in place a long list of guidelines and regulations that will be required before any business sets up a retail outlet for either recreational or medical marijuana sales.

Mayor Greg McCune says they don’t want people renting spaces now, with an intention to convert their business to a retail pot outlet later.

“All we are trying to do is say is if you are coming to our community under that guideline that you are just going to be there and be ready to go, these are the things we require you to do.”

McCune says they just want to make sure anyone who plans to start a pot-related business knows exactly what’s expected of them before they even try to start up.

“If you are going to come Enderby and if you are going to do this, these are the requirements you are going to have to have. You have to have proper security. We’re not saying don’t come, but we are saying if you are going to be here, be professional, be in business.”

McCune says this move will prevent unethical businesses from opening and ensuring only realistic and professional operations exist.

“We’re just trying to protect property values and deal with policing issues. Just because its legal doesn’t mean there won’t be a lot of crap associated with it right?”

McCune says security and policing, odour curtailment and location are among the many issues that must be addressed.

The Federal Liberals intend to legalize recreational marijuana use this coming summer.
