Highway Re-Opened South of Vernon

Mar 1, 2017 | 10:00 AM

Update: 11:05 am

RCMP say the highway has reopened at College Way to Bailey Road.

“Please continue to slow down and drive to conditions,” says Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

The fresh snow has led to dangerous driving conditions around the area.

RCMP have temporarily closed Highway 97 southbound from College Way to Bailey Road due to extremely slippery and dangerous conditions.

“It is unknown at this time how long the closure will last,” says Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

Police say road conditions across the North Okanagan are slippery and treacherous in places.

RCMP are reminding the motoring public to drive to conditions if you must go out.

Noseworthy is aware of at least ten crashes around the area this morning.

One incident saw a garbage truck go off Bernie Road which leads to the Greater Vernon landfill.

The Regional District is asking people not to go to the landfill until conditions improve.
