Aug 20, 2026 | 2:13 PM

A new award will be going to recognize local businesses and organizations that promote community well-being and prioritize employees health.

As part of the 42nd annual Business Excellence Awards, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has introduced a new Health and Wellness category.

The new award will recognize businesses and organizations that prioritize the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their workers, while also promoting healthy lifestyles in the North Okanagan.

“Businesses are recognizing that supporting the holistic health of their employees creates a stronger, more resilient community,” Sonja Harkness, Executive Director of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, stated.

“Partnering with CMHA Vernon allows us to shine a light on local organizations leading the way in fostering balanced, supportive work environments.”

The award will be sponsored by the Vernon and District branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA Vernon).

“Workplaces play a pivotal role in mental and physical wellness,” Julia Payson, Executive Director of CMHA Vernon, said.

“We are thrilled to sponsor this category and celebrate businesses that actively champion employee well-being.”

Nominations for these and the other awards can be submitted online until September 18.

The awards will be handed out during a special ceremony at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre on October 22.
